Discover our tender braised Chinese chicken with chestnuts, green onion, and ginger. A garnish of coriander gives the dish a wonderfully fresh twist, while Knorr® Chicken Broth Mix provides a well-rounded, rich flavor. With just a quick 10-minute marinade, this is an everyday dinner that requires little preparation but is packed full of great taste. Packaged chestnuts can be exchanged for fresh chestnuts if preferred – just remember to boil them for 5-minutes to make removing the shell that little bit easier.
- 1 (2 lbs) whole chicken
- 8 oz packaged chestnut
- 1 stalk coriander
- Sauce: 1 tbsp cooking wine, 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp Knorr® Chicken Broth Mix, 16 fl oz water, cornstarch solution – 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
- Marinade: 3 stalks green onion (cut into 2 inch pieces), 2 thin slices ginger, 1 tsp salt, 1 tbsp dark soy sauce, 1 tsp Knorr® Chicken Broth Mix
Cut the chicken into pieces and marinate for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat oil in a wok and stir fry the chicken for 5 minutes, until it’s golden brown.
Add in wine, sugar and Knorr® Chicken Broth Mix. Bring it to a boil.
Reduce the heat and braise for 15 minutes or until there’s just ½ cup of liquid remaining in the wok. Toss in the chestnuts.
Mix in the cornstarch solution and stir until the sauce reaches your preferred thickness. Serve with a garnish of coriander.
