Nothing beats traditional monghe, so we’ve developed our own recipe that will help you prepare the ultimate embutido for your Filipino fiesta. While you can buy your embutido from a local store, we recommended following our separate recipe for the best results. This mushroom onion gravy is the perfect accompaniment to a dish that’s typically served on special occasions.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • cooking oil
  • 8 slices embutido
  • 1 cup broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ tsp Knorr® Liquid Seasoning
  • 1 tbsp Lady’s Choice® Sandwich Spread
  • ground pepper
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in ½ cup water (slurry)
  • 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, peeled and cut into thin ring slices
Directions
1

Place corn starch in a bowl and beaten eggs in another.

2

Pre-heat your cooking oil. Dip the pork loaf slices into corn starch, then the egg. Place in the hot oil and cook for 3 minutes, turning until brown all over. Remove and set aside.

3

Meanwhile, in a small saucepan bring the broth to the boil. Add the soy, Knorr® Liquid Seasoning, ground pepper, and Lady’s Choice® Sandwich Spread. Keep whisking until all the ingredients dissolve.

4

Next, pre-heat oil in the pan and add your onions. Stir constantly for 8 minutes or until brown. Do the same with the mushrooms. Add these to the gravy.

5

Add the corn starch slurry and stir until thick and smooth.

6

Pour over monghe slices and serve warm.
