Enter creamy coconut heaven with this classic Filipino ginataang kalabasa recipe. Smooth kalabasa is offset by a shrimp seafood bite and crunchy string beans.
Peel and chop your onions as finely as possible, then cut your garlic into small pieces. Don’t stop chopping yet – slice your kalabasa into chunks that are approximately 1”-1½” in diameter. Finally, cut your string beans into neat 3” lengths.
Clean and prepare your shrimp by removing the heads, peeling the shells and removing the intestines running down the back of the shrimp. This is most easily achieved with a sharp paring knife.
Prepare your gata by mixing 1 pack of Knorr Ginataang Gulay in 1½ cups of water.
Heat a dry pan over medium heat. Pour in the oil and add your onions and garlic. Cook until soft and slightly browned. Throw in the kalabasa and mix with the Knorr Ginataang Gulay mixture. Allow the contents of the pan to simmer for a full minute. Alternatively, you can boil the kalabasa with Knorr Chicken Cubes separately for a chunkier and more flavorsome dish.
Add your string beans and shrimp, then simmer until your vegetables are cooked through.
Serve hot and to the satisfaction of the whole family.
